COVID-19 and W4AQL Operations
13 March 2020Dear all,
As most of you know already, Georgia Tech announced on March 13 that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, starting this weekend, students are asked to stay away from campus until at least March 29, and all instruction will be moved to a distance format after spring break. As such, a number of club events have been affected:
- The March amateur radio exam session has been cancelled.
- The March Open Shack has been cancelled.
We will continue to run the following events:
- The Yellow Jacket Net will continue as scheduled every Thursday night at 9pm on the W4AQL 2-meter repeater (145.15 MHz -0.6 PL 167.9). Come talk to your ham radio friends on the air! The virus is not "air"borne :)
-
The April business meeting will be held online
at the scheduled time, Monday, April 13, at 7pm.
Details TBD.[see meeting update]
Members with a shack key should still be able to access to the shack. However, please practice good hand hygiene when using shared club equipment. Please use the provided Clorox wipes to wipe down all surfaces including radios, keyboards, doorknobs, etc. before you leave the shack. This is particularly important because custodial staff do not have access to the shack. It is the club members' responsibility to keep the shack clean.
Because of the uncertainty of on-campus mail service due to COVID-19 and the planned demolition of the Student Center, from now on please address all mail to the club's QSL Manager, Leah Lucius, KJ4IQA, as follows:
Georgia Tech Amateur Radio Club
℅ Leah Lucius
1080 Curran St. NW
Atlanta, GA 30318-5409
[see contact page for updated mailing address]
As more information becomes available, the club may continue to adjust its operations. I will make sure to keep everyone updated. Please direct any questions to the Executive Committee.
If you're a student leaving campus, please take care of yourself during your time away. I hope to see everyone back in a couple of months time!

Bruce Yang, KN8U/BH4EPL
President
